I'm Michael and I'm here to help!
I currently work as a Learning and Instructional Designer at a top Australian University. The role makes great use of the knowledge and skills I have developed across various roles in education across the years.
Previously, I have taught English to elementary school Chinese students, and taught senior English to students in Australia. I have also taught adults in tutoorial settings both online and in-person. I have worked in other roles in Education, inclusing in student support, and as a publisher's representative. I have experience in preparing students for university, as well as formal English tests in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
I have a degree in teaching and am currently studying higher education teaching and learning. I have completed a TEFL course to support my teaching of English as a foreign language, and to complement my teaching degree.
I enjoy many things that life has to offer. I love golf. I enjoy SCUBA diving in tropical waters while on vacation. I like Australian football, gym, running, painting, cooking, and making model airplanes. I live with three cats and a dog.
I'm a pretty relaxed, fun person, but I take education quite seriously. I know the power that education can have to transform peoples' lives and I enjoy being part of that. I hope that I can develop English skills in people who want to learn, to improve their lives in whatever ways are important to them.

Through studying linguistics I gained an understanding of how the mouth, teeth and tongue work together to make the sounds used in verbal communication. By coaching you to make the right shapes with your mouth, you will be speaking more clearly in no time! I can also help you to understand word stress and give you tips on how to know where the stress is in particular word types.
If you wish to expand your understanding of word meanings, or if you're left 'scratching your head' (confused) by English phrases and idioms, I can 'give you a hand' (help) to make sense of it all!
English grammar can be very overwhelming and confusing, but it doesn't have to be. From ‘past tense’ to ‘future perfect’ (you don’t need to know these terms!), we can develop your understanding of what to say, and when.
Having taught senior high school English for a few years, I have a solid understanding of how to construct different essay types, regardless of the topic.
We can have a scripted or unscripted role-play to help you develop communication skills in a specific context.
If you want to develop your ability to have an interesting, unscripted, free-flowing conversation, I'm always up for a chat!
I can assist with the development of language skills for children and adults, and everyone in between. I have accumulated and developed many resources over years of teaching and university, and can source and develop further resources as necessary.
