Hello! 👋 I'm Madelyn. I live in Wales, on the West coast of the UK. I am a native British English speaker.
I love the English language, and I also speak the native language of Wales: Welsh!

🎧 Listening & Comprehension 💭
Many students find listening to be the most challenging part of a conversation, but working on it not only increases your vocabulary but helps you in speaking too.
Before class, I can send you a podcast recording (mp3) to listen to.
During class, we can have a discussion based on the audio. You will have plenty of opportunities to ask me questions.
After class, you will be sent a transcript of the audio for your English learning file. You can listen to it again and follow along.
This has proved to be a really successful way for many of my students to improve their listening, comprehension, and speaking skills. Why not find out for yourself?

Learn different question forms for the basic: How are you? And learn some different replies to this important question! 🎓 This lesson will help you to become more confident and sound more like a native English speaker 😎
🙋🏽♀️Clever Ways to Say Goodbye in English 🙋🏽♂️
Do you want to take your boring “goodbye” and turn it into something friendlier or more interesting?
In this lesson, we discuss some English phrases and expressions you can say instead of just plain old “bye.”

The word “yes” can be interpreted in so many different ways, depending on your context,
tone, and word choice. In this class, we explore the many nuances of this word and its synonyms.
👨🏻🏫👩🏻🏫 Public speaking tips that can help you with your business presentations and meetings. I am an experienced public speaker with lots of tips (and worksheets for your learning file!) to help you be the best version of yourself when giving presentations or demonstrations. For example, I can help you with getting your nerves under control, making an outline, making the best use of notes, dealing with interruptions, etc.
And of course, I offer free conversation classes too.
Many of my students find informal small talk, or "chit-chat" to be a real challenge when learning a new language. That being said, small talk can be mastered! Along with conversation practice, you will learn the differences between British English and American English words - a fun and interesting exercise that will help you in your travels, business meetings, and social occasions!

🎧 Listening & Comprehension 💭 Many students find listening to be the most challenging part of a conversation. In these lessons, you'll be sent a podcast recording link to listen to before class. During class, we'll listen again to the podcast (or an except) together and I will ask some prepared comprehension questions based on what we just listened to. You will have plenty of opportunities to ask me questions about unfamiliar vocabulary, phrases, and content context during class. This has proved to be a really successful way for many of my students to improve their listening skills. Some of the resources I use include the Global News by the BBC World Service and the Scientific American Podcast: 60-Second Podcasts series.
