Introduction:

I can help you understand English grammar and practice using the language.

My name is John, and I'm an English teacher. I've been interested in languages since I was young. I would go to our local library and check out books on every language imaginable. My love for learning languages only became stronger as I got older. I’ve recently received a BA in Linguistics from Brigham Young University, with a minor in Arabic and a Russian Language Certificate. I can speak Russian, Arabic and Chinese with advanced fluency, and I’ve learned the basics of many other languages. I’ve also been awarded a TEFL Certificate with Merit from Benedict School in St. Petersburg, Russia. As a student of languages, I know what study habits and learning resources are the most effective. I'm very committed to the learning and teaching of languages, and I would love to help people around the world achieve their goals. I hope to hear from you soon!

Teaching Specialty:

Everyday English › Free Conversation

Free conversation is probably the most important part of one's language study. No amount of personal study can replace the help of a native speaker. When students practice speaking the language they're learning, the language is no longer just a subject of study. It's also a means of communication. Native speakers can help students make natural-sounding sentences and move words and grammar from their short-term memory to their long-term memory.

English Basics › Accent Reduction

I have also studied phonetics and phonology (pronunciation) in some depth. I can help students speak more like native speakers by teaching them to distinguish the most important sounds, explaining how to make difficult sounds, and offering little tricks to make it easier.

English Basics › Grammar

One of my favorite parts of learning a new language is learning to use the grammar. When I studied linguistics in college, my main focus was morphology and syntax (grammar). Without having studied grammar in detail, most people would have a hard time explaining the grammar of their own native language. I can help by explaining grammar principles in simple terms and giving relevant examples.
