Hi I'm Natalya, I absolutely love languages and I have so much fun teaching them! I'm an alumni of the University of Colorado in my hometown of Boulder with a degree in International Affairs and a certificate from Sciences Po, the political science university of Paris. I am also a certified Early Childhood Education Professional. I am currently pursuing my English teaching career abroad in Medellin, Colombia.
Follow me! If you are not ready to book a lesson with me, you can get to know me a bit by following my page for free! I will send out a vocabulary word of the week as well as fun, free mini-lessons twice a month to people who follow my SkimaTalk page. Just hit the "Follow Me" button below my picture.
Language is my passion and I love to teach people new ways of communicating. I work outside of my lessons to improve my skills and learn new tips and tricks to pass on to my students, and I will answer questions any time you have them so feel free to send me a message. Your questions inspire me to work harder and learn more, and I love that!
You will receive many comments during our lessons so you can perfect your pronunciation and grammar in real time. I will also send you detailed reviews of each lesson so you can get the feedback that you need to improve quickly.
I really enjoy editing and studying grammar so I can be a resource for improving your written work as well as your speaking and listening skills.
I am in the process of expanding my career into translation, so I can give you translating tips in order to help you better translate your written work and understand difficult texts.
I will always provide you with materials to work on before and after our lessons to give you the ability to not only learn with me, but also maintain and expand your knowledge by practicing outside of our lessons.
I love to travel and would love to hear about your travel experiences! I lived in Germany for 6 months during high school I also studied at Sciences Po (L'institut d'etudes politiques) in Paris, France for my 2013-2014 university school year. While I was there I worked for Eveil Bilingue teaching children English in a home environment. After graduating from university, I worked as a preschool teacher and taught the foundations of English at a toddler level in the classroom. I have also taught many adult and adolescent students one-on-one, so I can alter my instruction to fit any age level or ability.
I'm so excited to get to know you and help you master the skills I know so well! Feel free to send me a message if you would like to ask me any questions before booking your first lesson.
Finally, I always appreciate it when you leave a review of our lesson because I love to use your feedback to continuously improve my teaching!
I am a total grammar nerd! I will catch your mistakes and help you correct them, and I also love to edit your written work. Send me a homework assignment before our session and I'll be able to tailor my teaching to your specific level of knowledge.
I love writing and have always received top marks on essays that I wrote for school. I will help you organize your thoughts in a clear and understandable way, especially focusing on creating helpful transitions between paragraphs. I will make sure that you use diverse vocabulary on your essay to keep the reader interested and that you are not making any grammatical mistakes. I can also give you tips on the research process and how to introduce and explain quotes from outside sources.
I have developed useful methods for vocabulary-building and I will always send you a list of the new vocabulary words we learned in each session so you can continue to commit them to memory. Some things you just have to memorize, like new words, so drill, drill, drill! I will help you develop fun ways to do this so you are constantly building your phrasebook. I also love to talk about strange English idioms and phrases and help you understand these confusing but useful turns of phrase.
I worked as a nanny for 9 years for children as young as infants and as old as 14. In 2016, I transitioned to working in a preschool as a co-teacher in a classroom of 2-3 year-old children for 1.5 years. I love working with kids! I love to play games and sing songs and read stories in order to teach children in an organic way. Kids are just so much fun to interact with and I love being able to help teach the newest generation.
I love reading the news, so let's read together! I can help you identify tricky phrases that are used in "news-talk" that are not as commonly heard in everyday speech, as well as boost your cultural knowledge by sending you articles from different areas in the USA or other English-speaking countries. Reading the news from several different places is also a great way to build your vocabulary!
I love public-speaking and have learned much from being a shy person who has had to speak in public often. I can help you organize your speech so that you are captivating, succinct and understandable, as well as give you tips for being more comfortable in front of people and appearing confident when you are at the podium.
I aced the SAT and am very skilled in test-taking generally. Let me teach you time-management skills so you do not feel rushed while taking the test. I can also give you strategies about how to best approach multiple-choice questions without getting overwhelmed by all the options available. I am also great with vocabulary building and have lots of tips and tricks to share!
Let me help you speak like a native English-speaker! I come from Colorado and since we are located very close to the middle of the country, we speak with a very neutral accent, making it easier to understand me when you are learning. I can teach you how to achieve a neutral American-English accent so that English speakers anywhere will be able to understand you.
I have been self-employed for more than a decade and have communicated with many different people over the years. I have developed necessary skills that help me communicate with any type of person easily via email. Let me help you develop methods to always explain yourself clearly and respectfully online.
I have studied phonetics extensively and have a very sharp ear for accents and pronunciation. I have gathered many resources to teach you about proper pronunciation and give you an idea of how the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) can be extremely helpful in learning a new language. I will even give you some rules that tell you how to pronounce specific letter combinations, when applicable!

I worked at a summer camp where we taught children ages 6-13 how to ride and care for horses. I was promoted to Lead Counselor during my final summer working there. We worked with social-services kids and practiced equine-therapy to allow them to work with their emotional difficulties through connecting with a live animal. It was very rewarding work which allowed me to be outside all day and work with children and animals.
I have worked as a nanny for several different families over the years, with children between the ages of 0 - 14. I love to care for children and teach them new things. I have worked for a company in France that specifically hired native English-speakers to work as nannies and speak only English to the children so that they could start learning the language in a natural way. Working with children has taught me so much about how to communicate non-verbally, and this has taught me vital skills to teach people whose native language I do not speak.

I worked as a ghost-editor for a book titled New Altitude. I was not credited in the book but I edited the ghost-writer's work and gave her notes before she sent the final copy to the publisher. You can check out the book here: http://www.amazon.com/New-Altitude-Beyond-Tough-Times/dp/098877030X
I worked as a co-teacher in a preschool classroom for 1.5 years at The Acorn School for Early Childhood Development in Boulder, Colorado. When I first started at the school, I worked with children from ages 0-5, and after 2 months I was placed in a classroom with 1.5-2 year-olds as a co-lead teacher. I taught the fundamentals of the English language constantly, and also gave lessons in German and French during circle time. I learned vital skills allowing me to decipher the language of youngsters, as well as communicate non-verbally.
I am currently working as a private English tutor in Medellín, Colombia. I work with students of all ages, from children to business people, tailoring my lessons to their personal language goals and abilities.
