I help you to use English meaningfully and speak confidently!

Do you want to develop your conversation skills? Let me help! I'm Rose, a "kiwi" from New Zealand and a qualified and experienced English language teacher. I have plenty of tips to help you ‘level-up’ your English.

First, let me tell you a little bit about me…

I am a friendly, supportive and organized teacher. I have years of experience learning languages and living, working and travelling overseas. I lived in Japan for 2 years, and then in Myanmar for 2 months, and I've also been to a couple of other countries for a week or two as well. Each experience has taught me a lot about other countries, cultures and languages and helped me to develop my skillset as a teacher. I also have sound knowledge in Second Language Education. Through my tertiary studies I've done lots of research on the best ways to teach and learn languages. My classes make use of both my formal training and my personal experiences. This way, I can teach teach highly effective lessons.

My classes are all about you – your goals, your learning style and your interests. I teach through conversation – this means that we'll talk about lots of different topics, and then reflect on how to express these ideas in English. I'll help you find the right words, sentences and pronunciation to speak clearly and confidently.

In my classes you will:

✓ have interesting conversations about various topics
✓participate in fun role-play activities
✓ learn useful vocabulary – particularly idioms and phrasal verbs
✓ improve pronunciation
✓ extend your knowledge and use of grammar
✓ receive corrective feedback
✓ learn tips for self-study
✓ improve spoken fluency

- Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
- Bachelor of Arts Degree (Japanese and Second Language Education)
- 3 + years of teaching experience

I love spending time outside; snowboarding, running, hiking, and occasionally mountain biking. Of course, I like chilling at home too. One of my favorite things to do is to make a big pot of coffee, sit in the sun and read a good book… What about you? Do we have any interests in common?

1. Check my schedule and choose a time that suits you.
2. Meet me for your first lesson. We'll discuss your goals and how I can help you.
3. If you like my teaching style, book more lessons & start learning with me!

--> 25 minutes too short? Book 2 consecutive lessons for a longer lesson!

If you liked my lesson, please leave a review - your feedback helps me improve!

See you soon!

English Basics › Accent Reduction

I can help you learn new sounds to improve your English. - e.g., 'th' in 'think', 'v' in 'verb' etc I can help you pronounce the correct sentence stress. - e.g we stress the first syllable in photo (PHO-to) and photograph (PHO-to-graph), but the second syllable in photographer (pho-TO-graph-er) I can also help you notice features of connected speech - connected speech is when words connect when speakers say them together e.g have to --> hafta, got to --> gotta, want to --> wanna

Writing › General

I teach writing by using a genre based approach and designing an activity cycle Genre based approach: - focus on aspects of language based on text types (e.g narrative, email, news report etc) Activity Cycle: - prepare before you write! 1.) READ: read an example text 2.) NOTICE: check comprehension -> notice the structure -> notice key language items 3.) WRITE: brainstorm ideas -> write -> self-check -> teacher correction / advice

English Basics › Grammar

I introduce new grammar structures in context. This means you will be able to infer (guess) the meaning from the situation. I'll help you to understand by giving clear explanations and examples. We'll practice using new structures through controlled drills and meaningful speaking activities.
