Hi! My name is Sophie and I'm 31 years old from Cambridge in the United Kingdom. I have almost 3 years of experience teaching English to high school students in Latin America, the UK and East Asia via SkimaTalk. I’m currently living in Seoul, South Korea where I’m learning Korean and continuing to teach English.

Learning Spanish whilst living in Colombia was one of the most satisfying and challenging things that I’ve done but I'm so glad I took it on! I understand it can be frustrating at times but I believe that anybody can speak another language if they put their mind to it. As a current Korean language student, I can relate to the difficulties of communicating in a different language. I assure you it will be worth it!
I am CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) qualified and have experience of teaching both adults and high school children.
I like my classes to be relaxed and for the student to feel like they are learning without it feeling boring or hard work! That means lots of functional language that you can go out and use in every day life after the classes.
I am very passionate about language learning and want to use my enthusiasm to help others who are trying to reach their language goals. I love to get to know my students at the beginning of our classes so that we can work towards their language targets in a way that is interesting for them.
Teaching Specialty:
I have run various conversation classes with students who have a wide range of abilities and levels. I have experience in leading conversation classes with students who have a very low level of English and thought they wouldn't be able to have a conversation at all!
I used to teach English phonics to students who had specific difficulties with diphthongs so I am aware of the common problem areas that language students have. I also have techniques to help students progress in these areas
A lot of the teaching I have done has been based on conversational English in different situations so I have lots of experience in this area as well as web resources for reference. Situations such as 'Ordering in a restaurant', 'Giving and receiving advice', 'Arguing a point', 'Asking for help', 'Asking for directions' are just a few of the topics I have experience in teaching.

I worked as an activity leader in a school for foreign language students, designing and undertaking activities for groups of students learning English. My role meant that I could facilitate English language learning through activities, sports and events.
Teaching Professional
I co taught English in a Colombian secondary school to children from the ages of 11 to 18. As well as co teaching the students, I gained experience in offering conversational English classes to other teachers.
Teaching Professional
I taught groups of teenagers working towards their ILETs exam. In addition to this, I coordinated excursions for student groups in London and Cambridge and the transfers of over 300 students to and from various London airports.

I lead a team of 5 caseworkers at a social impact, tech start up. In addition to this I designed and facilitated training and onboarding for new joiners to the company.
