소개:

Linguist and English Teacher Focusing on Conversation, Interviews, and Perfecting Grammar

What are your goals for learning English?

Do you want to take an important test, like the TOEFL or TOEIC?

Do you need English for your job or for school?

Do you want to be able to travel and talk to people around the world?

No matter your goal for learning English, I can help!

My name is Melissa, and I have taught English for more than ten years! I have my Masters degree in Linguistics, and am so passionate about providing positive English learning experiences that I have experience in teaching people how to become English teachers.

Maybe you've heard from other teachers and schools that mastering grammar is the most important part of learning English, or maybe some people have told you that conversation should be your first priority.

The truth is that the best way to learn English depends on your personal goals; some people will need formal grammar, and I am happy to provide that! Other people need intensive conversation practice, and we can work on that as well.

When you learn English with me, you can expect:

* A personalized approach to your goals and needs - Our lessons will be individualized, with specific feedback to help you grow
* A focus on communication - yes, you can learn formal grammar even while practicing communication!
* Expert knowledge - with a Masters in Linguistics, I am knowledgeable in all aspects of English, including grammar, pronunciation, meaning, and register
* A fun, stress-free environment!

I am passionate about languages (I speak Spanish bilingually, high intermediate Korean, and I'm studying Dutch) and I truly believe everyone can learn a language! Let's get started together!

Teaching Specialty:

English Basics › Grammar

Grammar is a cornerstone of learning a language, and is the subject of language I am most passionate about! We can discuss a range of grammar, from how to master tricky verb tenses, to the many prepositions in English, to how to choose adjectives and nouns. I am an expert at English grammar, due to my Masters degree in Linguistics, and will incorporate real life examples of grammar usage so you can see it in action!

English Basics › Pronunciation / Phonics

Pronouncing a foreign language can be tricky, but it isn't impossible! I'll help you improve your understanding of the phonics and pronunciation of English through a look into other languages that influence English, where our spelling and pronunciation come from, and tricks on how to remember. We'll discuss the placement of the tongue, how your mouth should feel when pronouncing certain letters, and the difference in some vowel and consonant sounds in English to listen for to make your pronunciation the best it can be!

Everyday English › Free Conversation

We can rely on any resource that you find interesting to guide our conversations. This can range from talking about the news, to talk about pop culture and art, or maybe discussing jobs and hobbies. The focus will be on free talk, with correction at strategic moments. The outcome will be improved fluency in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through practice with a native speaker.
