Hi, my name is Sam! I am from Perth, Australia, and I love teaching English. I have a 168 hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate, and I have been teaching English to adults online for over a year now. My favourite thing is watching my students improve in their ability and confidence. I have taught students from all over the world, but many are from Japan, South Korea and China. My classes are all different, and depend on what each student needs. With some students we practice conversation for fluency, but other students like to practice grammar. Some students want help studying for exams, and some students like to learn idioms and Australian slang!
My teaching style is fun, kind, encouraging and patient. I have always been interested in people, so I completed my honours in psychology at Murdoch University in Perth. I also studied languages at Adelaide university, so I know how hard learning a new language is. As I have done a lot of university study, I can help you with academic writing. My first passion was dancing, and I taught dance for 7 years before teaching English. I also worked as a salesperson for a jewellery company, which requires great communication skills.
I love having adventures, and my hobbies are travel, hiking, camping, kayaking, diving, gardening, collecting gemstones and motorcycle riding. I have three gorgeous, friendly cats, who love to play in the garden.

Test Prep › IELTS

I have done a course on teaching IETLS to understand the criteria the examiners are looking for. I have helped many students study for their tests. If you want to get feedback on your practice questions, or you want to improve important IELTS skills (for example; fluency and pronunciation) then I would love to help you.

Everyday English › Free Conversation

I am a very good listener, and very patient while you think of what you want to say. I will make suggestions and corrections in the chat box, so you can learn while you practice your fluency. I love talking with you about all sorts of topics. If you are shy I am very encouraging, and am very good at asking questions to help you have a great conversation in English.

Everyday English › Advanced

I love helping students increase the range of grammar they use in everyday conversation. I help you to really understand when to accurately use the different tenses, especially the more complicated ones such as "I had been studying English" compared to "I had studied English." I find this really helps take your English to the next level. I have a great chart that we use to practice different tenses in conversations and become fluent at correctly using a variety of tenses. I also love helping students practice understanding and becoming practiced at using the different conditional sentences and other more advanced grammar.
