Introduction:

I am an enthusiastic teacher who loves to help students improve their English conversation skills.

Hi, my name is Brooke, and I have been a learner or a teacher my whole life! After I graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in English Education and then a masters degree in Education Leadership, I was an English teacher for 18 years in a high school classroom. At that time, I also coached volleyball and tennis, and I loved every minute of it. After those 18 years, I decided to move into online teaching by teaching English to students in different countries. I've been doing that for 4 years, and I've obtained a TESOL certification during that time.
My hobbies include walking my two big dogs, swimming, and traveling.
If you would like to develop new English skills or if you would like to improve the skill set that you already have, please feel free to book a lesson with me so that I can help you achieve the English language goals you have set.

Teaching Specialty:

Everyday English › Free Conversation

I have been teaching online to Chinese students for 4 years, and often their parents will ask me to put the curriculum aside just to talk to their students. My students know that my classroom is a safe space to make mistakes and receive supportive corrections. Conversation is great to build confidence, and it makes learning fun!

English Basics › Vocabulary / Useful Phrases

A focus in my classroom has always been to nurture and develop a vocabulary of conversational words while always striving to learn more. I believe that a strong vocabulary starts with conversation with someone who uses a strong vocabulary. That way, conversation is always a learning tool! Then focused practice with challenging vocabulary words is supplemental.

English Basics › Grammar

I taught Basic Grammar and Advanced Grammar for over 15 years to secondary learners in a high school setting. My resources include many books of reference, including how to cite sources in MLA format and APA format. I also taught Journalism for 18 years, and although some of the journalism rules are slightly different in the AP Stylebook, the general rule of consistency is a specialty of mine.
