Introduction:
A focus on pronunciation and grammar while challenging students to develop independent thinking.
Hello there!
I am a native English speaker from Manchester, England, with a neutral accent. I have worked for many years in a managerial position in a popular restaurant in Spain, working with people from all over the world. I also speak Spanish and understand how difficult it can be sometimes to try to communicate in a second language.
I started my teaching journey in 2010 when I completed my first TEFL certificate and refreshed my qualifications in 2019 with a 120-hour certificate. I have also completed complementary courses such as: Teaching English to Young Learners, Teaching Online, Teaching 1-on-1, etc.
I have five years of experience teaching online.
I can help you prepare job applications, write emails or cover letters, and translations, have conversational fluency, and help increase your active vocabulary. My interests are healthy eating, fitness, psychology, and emotional, mental, and physical wellness. Maybe we can discuss one of these topics?
I have extensive experience teaching children from age 5 upwards and specialize in courses based on Oxford phonics, Oxford Discovery, and Pearson Big English. I can also help your children with phonetics, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
My teaching approach is always tailored to the individual’s needs. Each student’s learning style, level, and objective are different, so each class is different based on what works for them. I am patient and kind, but I place a strong emphasis on pronunciation and grammar. I also enjoy challenging the students to think for themselves and correct their own mistakes. You will discover that you know more than you think you do!
I hope you will consider me a resource for helping you gain the confidence to communicate more effectively in English and break down the barriers holding you back!
See you in the classroom ;)
Teaching Specialty:
For the younger children I prefer to base my classes on Oxford Phonics World, Oxford Let's Go, Pearson Big English, and Oxford Discover, depending on the child's level. I use lots of visual aids in the classes and the classes are relaxed and fun.
These classes are based on conversation. If the student does not have a chosen topic or interest, we can go with the flow and talk about life in general.
These classes are based on conversation and role-plays. A little initiative and imagination will be necessary. How would you complain in a restaurant if you weren't happy with the food? How would you make a reservation in a hotel? How would you communicate with customers when you are a waiter/ress in a restaurant?
These classes are specifically for English to work in a restaurant. Taking reservations, serving tables, complaints from customers, and communicating with other members of staff.
As an avid writer myself, it is always useful to have a second opinion of your letters, emails, articles, and essays. And even more useful for it to be from a native speaker. I can correct grammar, spelling, and phrases that are maybe not so popular in today's world.
Are you interested in current affairs? In these classes, we read and discuss news articles.
A conversational class based on everything and anything. The general small talk we encounter in our day-to-day.
Presuming the student is already familiar with phonics and has a good level of communication, at this age I tend to start working on the Oxford Discover student book and workbook. There is a strong emphasis on reading, independent thinking, and correct pronunciation.
