My name is Maya and I come from Edinburgh in Scotland. I have a law degree but I decided to do a TEFL course due to my love of language and travel. I am currently living and working in Colombia as an English for Specific Purposes teacher. I teach grammar and career specific English in a vocational college.
I consider myself to be a friendly, supportive and outgoing person. I will always do my best to make sure our lessons are engaging and that you feel comfortable communicating in English.
We would learn and analyse the general rules of the language in order to utilise the patterns in a functional manner.
We would incorporate role play into our lessons with situational based vocabulary, for example, cafes, restaurants, transport and more.
We would review the conventional patterns of sound in the English language including articulation, stress, and intonation.

I worked in the OSCARS summer camp teaching children aged from 9-17. The students were predominately Italian and were in an English immersion course. The experience was very interesting as the focus was mainly on speaking and fluency. This meant that most of our activities were interactive and dynamic. This experienced developed my ability to improve pronunciation and fluency.
I am currently working in a national Colombian vocational institution. My role is to ensure that the students are not only learning the grammar but also language that is appropriate to their future careers. This is an extremely enjoyable experience as I am able to learn about different sectors and also teach people how to apply English in a practical manner.
