Introduction:
Engaging (K-12, Adult) Beginner-Advanced ESL Instruction for students with varying learning styles
Hello! My name is Meredith Potter and I recently graduated with my Masters in TESOL. I also have my Bachelors in Psychology and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management. After aiding both domestic and international human trafficking survivors through varying nonprofits, I transitioned into education. Previously, I taught high school students in an alternative school setting, volunteered as an ESL teacher with adult students, and worked as a small group instructor in a diverse high-poverty elementary school. In less than 2 months (August 2018) I will be transferring to another elementary public school to be the lead ESL teacher.
I believe in students learning at their own pace while creating a fun and relaxing environment for every type of student. I also like to design unique plans that line up with specific learning styles and gifts of my students. Many learning styles and interests can be addressed with the usage of technology. I look forward to building relationships with my students and helping them reach their goals!
Teaching Specialty:
I especially love to use singing, dancing, and games to create an active learning experience for my students.
I have taught K-12 students for the past two years and will be an ESL teacher for elementary aged students in this upcoming school year.
I enjoy free conversation lessons when working with my Vietnamese college and adult students over in Vietnam. We discuss topics that confuse them or discuss specific vocabulary/phrases.
I will be teaching everyday Elementary level ESL to K-5 students this upcoming school year. I like to use SIOP methods in order to break down material into small enough pieces for students to learn at their own pace. I also use a variety of activities to offer students a mix of learning experiences.
I enjoyed teaching adult English Language Learners and our lesson plans were focused on relevant situational topics.
I have taught listening and speaking sessions that focus on students reducing their accent to sound more like a native speaker. Music also helps with accent reduction and has helped me while learning Spanish.
Many of my elementary reading small group lessons have begun with vocabulary lessons in order to pre-learn new vocab so that students can have stronger reading comprehension, as well as knowing how to properly use those words on their own.
