Introduction:
Scientific and academic English, English-language literature, and business English.
Hi, my name is Rafael. I grew up in the UK in a city called Glasgow, but right now I’m living in Taiwan. I want to help you learn English and achieve your goals. I believe that if you do it right, learning can be a pleasure, and if you take lessons with me I’ll:
• listen carefully to what you want, and design our lessons to focus on that,
• give you encouragement to learn with a positive, professional and polite attitude,
• introduce you to many fascinating books and movies you can read and watch to improve your English.
I have nearly two years of experience teaching English to both adults and children at all levels from basic to advanced. We can practice conversation, read a book together, or focus on a special type of language like business English or medical English.
I can teach you scientific and academic English, which I know well from my master’s degree in physics.
Literature is another subject I can teach you about. I have spent a huge amount of my life reading and am familiar with a sizable chunk of western literature. I spend almost all of my free time reading and writing, and would love the opportunity to share this passion with you.
Teaching Specialty:
If you'd like to widen your vocabulary I can teach you some fascinating new words like deracinate or recidivism. We can also practice using useful phrases for situations like travel or meeting new people.
If you'd like to feel more confident discussing news and current events, we can practice this by discussing some news articles that we find online. You'll improve quickly and easily.
Slang is one of my favourite parts of the English language - I can teach you many funny words and phrases from around the English-speaking world, especially from Scotland.
Role-play is a very effective way to prepare for specific situations you know you'll encounter soon, for example job interviews. It can also be quite fun, since you get to act like someone else for a while.
I do freelance writing in my spare time, and would be happy to share some tips on how to write clear and concise essays.
Scientific and academic English: you'll need this if you want to study abroad, especially a scientific subject. I have a master's degree in physics, so I can help you understand the language you'll hear at a university.

Work Experience:
Teaching Professional
I taught English lessons for children aged 4-16. This was similar to my role at Hess, but also involved some one-to-one lessons with older students focussed on conversation.
Teaching Professional
I volunteered my time giving online English lessons to an adult refugee. My student had relatively advanced English, so working with him has extended and diversified my teaching experience.
Teaching Professional
I taught English classes to children aged 3-14. I was responsible for planning all of my own lessons, preparing the materials in advance, assessing the students, and marking their written exams. I had a lot of autonomy in planning and delivering classes, and therefore a lot of individual responsibility for making sure they were effective and fun.
