Introduction:

General English and Conversation Skills

Hello to all! My name is Stephanie, and I have been teaching English for over five years. I first started teaching when I moved to South Korea in 2014. I taught at two private academies while there. My students ranged from kindergarteners to grown adults, so I feel very comfortable with all ages and levels. Additionally, I taught in Los Angeles at a private academy, and my students there were adults from all around the world. Each class was an amazing mix of native languages and cultures, which helped me grow as a teacher. I have also privately tutored to both children and adults throughout the past two years.

My teaching style is very enthusiastic and laid back. I like to create a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere in which you feel confident speaking. If you have specific concerns regarding your English skills, please let me know at the beginning of the lesson, and I will focus on those. I am here for you in any way you need me!

I am very interested in learning languages myself. I have mainly studied French and Korean, but I have also studied a little Spanish and Chinese. This helped me learn what it’s like to be a student, and I take that knowledge into my classroom.

I have many interests and hobbies. I like to read books, go camping, play sports, watch movies and TV shows, and eat delicious food. I studied acting in university and have performed in many theatre shows, as well as television series and short films, so art is also important. There are many more - I hope we can speak about them in conversation.

I currently live in California in the U.S.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little more, and I hope to see you soon!

Teaching Specialty:

English Basics › General

Depending on the learning styles of the student, I will organize each lesson around what they need and want. I like to use resources such as online videos, film scenes, and news articles to help teach different vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.

English Basics › Vocabulary / Useful Phrases

I use resources such as online videos, news articles, and curated lesson reviews, depending on what the student needs/likes.

Everyday English › Free Conversation

For conversation practice, it can be open and fluid, or it can be structured and specific with certain topics and vocabulary. It all depends on the needs and wants of each student. I love having conversations with students about any topic.

English Basics › Accent Reduction

I trained as an actress during my early twenties, so learning accents is a skill I have. If a student needs help with their English-speaking accent, I feel very confident that I can help in a big way. I use films, video interviews, and my own accent to help the student better understand what a certain accent sounds like. Plus, I will coach their specific accent needs through open conversation.

English Basics › Grammar

For grammar lessons, I like to use videos and slides to teach each point. If the student wants more specific grammar lessons, we can use these resources (or more), if desired.
