General English and Conversation Skills
Hello to all! My name is Stephanie, and I have been teaching English for almost five years. I first started teaching when I moved to South Korea in 2014, and I taught at two private academies while there. My students ranged from kindergarteners to grown adults, so I feel very comfortable with all ages and levels. Additionally, I taught in Los Angeles at a private academy, and my students there were adults from all around the world. Each class was an amazing mix of native languages and cultures, which helped me grow as a teacher. I have also privately tutored to both children and adults throughout the past two years.
My teaching style is very enthusiastic and laid back. I like to create a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere in which you feel confident speaking. Whenever there are issues regarding pronunciation, grammar, or vocabulary, I can either address them immediately during the lesson, or I can record them in the post-lesson assessment so you may study further. If you have specific concerns regarding your English speaking, please let me know at the beginning of the lesson, and I will focus on those. I am here for you in any way you need me!
I am very interested in learning languages myself. I have mainly studied French and Korean, but I have also studied a little Spanish and Chinese. From my own studies, I have learned what it’s like to be a student, and I take this knowledge into my classroom when I help others learn English. Whenever a student is having trouble, I put on my student hat to know what they’re feeling before I put on my teacher hat to help them. I believe my experiences as a student of other languages allows me to help students of English in a deeper, more efficient way.
I have many interests and hobbies. I like to read books, go camping, play sports, watch movies and TV shows, and eat delicious food. I am also trying to learn guitar so I can involve myself more with music, and I LOVE animals. Additionally, I studied acting in university and have performed in many theatre shows, as well as television series and short films. I have many more interests and hobbies, so I hope to talk to you about these. I truly enjoy sharing experiences and stories with my students.
Finally, about me personally, I grew up and went to university in Minnesota in the United States, but I now live in Los Angeles, California. I first moved here to pursue acting, but I stayed because I love living in California. If any of you plan to travel to LA in the future, I can share what I know about the city so you can have an amazing time while here.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little more, and I hope to see you soon!
I use many resources for vocabulary and phrases, such as books, movies, podcasts, and even personal videos that I might shoot if a student has a specific topic in mind. I have a very large vocabulary myself, so teaching this to other students is fun and easy.
For conversation practice, it can be open and fluid, or it can be structured and specific with certain topics and vocabulary. It all depends on the needs and wants of each student. I love having conversation with students about any topic, so I can speak as little or as much as needed. I truly enjoy getting to know my students in any way possible.
I trained as an actress during my early twenties, so learning accents is a skill I have. If a student needs help with their English-speaking accent, I feel very confident that I can help in a big way. I use films, video interviews, and my own accent to help the student better understand what a certain accent sounds like. Plus, I will coach their specific accent needs through open conversation.
For grammar lessons I like to use videos, slides, and textbooks to teach each point. I also believe that homework works well when teaching grammar, so I will assign more projects, if needed and desired.
Depending on the learning styles of the student, I will organize each lesson around what they need and want. I use many different resources, such as books, movies and TV shows, music, slides, online worksheets, and more. If desired, I also assign homework, which could be a writing assignment, a reading assignment, or answering questions to a video or song.

I created and taught lesson plans customized for the grade and skill-level of the students in each class. The subjects taught included English, culture, history, science, mathematics, and geography. I also taught basic French.
I taught kindergarten and elementary students English as a second language, along with supplementary subjects in science and art. I wrote daily lesson plans for the kindergarten program, as well as taught cultural differences within differing subjects.
I tutored English to kids and adults privately. Depending on what the student wanted, I would conduct free conversation each lesson, or I would teach from a specific textbook, book, or article if they had one in mind. Each lesson was catered to their unique needs.
I instructed advanced adult English-learners in language acquisition, culture, and applied skills, such as job interviewing and giving presentations. I prepared detailed lessons for daily classes, making sure to provide differing methods of instruction to cater to students' varied learning styles. I also prepared and graded quizzes and exams.
