As of April 1, 2025, Skype is no longer recommended for taking lessons.
Going forward, please use Microsoft Teams for your sessions.

If you haven’t set up Microsoft Teams yet, please download the app and create your account as soon as possible.

Also, starting today, Skype Name is no longer required when registering a new account.
As a result, some teachers may not have a registered Skype Name. Please prepare to take your sessions on Teams at your earliest convenience.

Starting April 1, 2025, sessions will be conducted using Microsoft Teams. Below are the details on how to take sessions via Teams.
Since the basic features are already available, you may start using them in March if you have agreed with your teacher in advance to take sessions on Microsoft Teams.
This information is also included in your booking confirmation and reminder emails.

1. How to Prepare for Your Session

Please download Microsoft Teams and log in with your Microsoft account.*
* If you do not have a Microsoft account, please create one. If you have a Skype account, you can log in using your Skype Name and password.

There are two main ways to take sessions on Teams: "Teams Chat" and "Teams Meeting."

• Teams Chat allows you to start a session at any time without prior setup. However, you must be connected on Teams Chat through prior message exchanges.
• Teams Meeting requires the teacher to create and share a meeting link before the session. Since students can join simply by clicking the link, this method is ideal for first-time sessions or for those who are not yet familiar with Teams.

2. How to Start Your Session

If You Are Connected with Your Teacher on Teams Chat:
Click the "Teamsチャットを開く" button on My Page and wait for your teacher’s call.

If You Are NOT Connected with Your Teacher on Teams Chat:
1. If your teacher has not set up a Teams Meeting (e.g., last-minute booking)

• If your teacher has not created a meeting link, the "Teamsチャットを開く" button will appear on My Page.
• Click the button and send a simple message such as “Hi” in the Teams Chat.
• Then, wait for your teacher’s video call.

2. If your teacher has already set up a Teams Meeting

• The "Teams Meetingに参加" button will appear on My Page.
• Click the button to join the meeting.

3. Checking Teams Chat after the session

• Your teacher may send a message via Teams Chat after the session.
• Click the "Accept" button to connect with your teacher on Teams Chat, enabling future sessions through Teams Chat.

Dear SkimaTalk Users,
Thank you for learning on SkimaTalk. As Skype will be discontinued on May 5, 2025, we will be transitioning our lesson platform on SkimaTalk to Microsoft Teams. To ensure a smooth transition, please review the following information and take necessary actions in advance.

1. Transition Schedule

March 2 – March 31: Transition Period (1)
You can continue taking lessons on Skype. During this period, please download Microsoft Teams, create an account, and prepare for trial lessons. You can download Microsoft Teams from the official website.

April 1 – April 20: Transition Period (2)
We recommend taking lessons on Microsoft Teams. From April 1, 2025, Skype will no longer be recommended for use on SkimaTalk.

From April 21 onward: Discontinuation of Skype
From April 21, 2025, Skype will no longer be available on SkimaTalk. All lessons will be conducted via Microsoft Teams from this date onward.

2. Trial Lessons on Teams in March

In March, teachers may send meeting links for Microsoft Teams through SkimaTalk Message. If you can take lessons on Teams, please reply to the teacher and take the lesson on Teams accordingly.

3. Further Updates

Any necessary updates regarding this transition will be posted on My Page as they become available.

4. Q&A

Q1. Why Microsoft Teams?
A. Microsoft Teams, like Skype, is a service operated by Microsoft. The ability to sign in to Teams using Skype credentials and the feature to migrate chat and contact history are planned to be introduced gradually, ensuring a smooth transition for lessons. Other tools such as Google Meet and Zoom are available, but Google Meet does not save chat history, and the free version of Zoom imposes a 40-minute time limit. Due to these limitations, we have decided to adopt Microsoft Teams.

Q2. Can I use Google Meet or Zoom instead of Microsoft Teams?
A. If you wish to take lessons using Google Meet or Zoom, please create a meeting link in advance and send it to the teacher via SkimaTalk Message at least 24 hours before the lesson to obtain their approval. (Please note that the free version of Zoom has a 40-minute time limit.)

Q3. Can I continue using Skype for SkimaTalk lessons after April 1?
A. From April 1, Skype will no longer be recommended on SkimaTalk, and from April 21, it will no longer be available at all. Please transition to Microsoft Teams as soon as possible after April 1.

Q4. Is creating a Microsoft Teams account free?
A. Yes, the basic features of Microsoft Teams are free to use. You can create an account through the official Microsoft website or directly within the app. If you don’t have an account yet, please follow the instructions on the screen after downloading the app to register.

Q5. Can I take lessons on Microsoft Teams using a smartphone or tablet?
A. Yes, Microsoft Teams is available on PCs, smartphones, and tablets. If you are using a smartphone or tablet, please download the app in advance and check its functionality.

Q6. Should I download Microsoft Teams for lessons?
A. Microsoft Teams can be used on a web browser, but some features may be limited. For a stable lesson environment, please use the app version.

Q7. I use Teams for work and don’t want to use the same account for SkimaTalk. What should I do?
A. Microsoft Teams allows multiple accounts, so if you prefer to keep your work and lesson accounts separate, you may consider creating a separate account for lessons.

Q8. I don’t know how to use Microsoft Teams. What should I do?
A. Please refer to the official Microsoft guide for basic usage of Microsoft Teams.
