Hello! My name is Chantal, but I've been known as Chanty (pronounced like "Shanti," meaning "peace" in Sanskrit). since childhood. I am new here on SkimTalk and am excited to connect with English learners on this platform! I look forward to learning more about Japanese culture through the sessions so that I can better support students.
I am a native English and Spanish speaker from Chicago, IL in the United States. I am a newly certified TEFL teacher beginning to gain experience through online teaching. I have a bachelor's degree in communication, and I am also a certified yoga teacher.
Some words to describe me are kind, caring, energetic, wise, adaptable, smiley, silly, and down to earth. When I'm not teaching English, I enjoy cooking healthy food, singing, dancing and practicing yoga. I also love spending time in nature exploring mountains and forests. I am a traveler; I have visited Mexico, India, Vietnam and Thailand. I love learning about other cultures and meeting people from all over the world. I believe that while we are all unique, we also share a common thread that connects us all.
An English lesson with me is like spending quality time with an old friend! With a balance between productive and enjoyable, my classroom is a nurturing and positive space. We can practice reading, writing and pronunciation and go over vocabulary and grammar. We can also simply have a casual conversation like you would in the real world. I am here for YOU, so the class will be tailored to your needs and goals!
I welcome mistakes and see them as important learning opportunities. I offer supportive feedback that will help you grow and guide you on your journey. I am here to help you feel confident and empowered to integrate English into your daily life and your future.
As a devoted student of life, I live on both sides of the teacher-student world, which allows me to maintain a clear perspective while guiding students on their learning journeys. I devote just as much time to learning as I do to teaching, continuously practicing and integrating my many passions in this life that I have the honor of sharing with others – communication, yoga, food/cooking, health/wellness, teaching, and more. I am always taking one course or another to deepen my knowledge!
