Hi! I'm Ellen. I was born and raised on a large family farm outside of a small town in Ohio. It was an incredibly fun place to grow up with my 6 crazy brothers and sisters but I was always intrigued by other parts and peoples of the world. So, I spent my senior year of high school as an exchange student in beautiful Costa Rica. It was a memorable year that really fueled my desire to travel even more. I did manage to take a few trips while working as a teacher of English and Spanish in Ohio for 27 years. Then a couple of years ago I decided to pack up some clothes and my two cats and move us all to Costa Rica. Here I started teaching English at bilingual schools while giving a few private lessons on the side. Then I realized that I actually loved my time with my individual students more than the traditional classroom setting. Really, what could be better than getting to know your student on a deeper level while personalizing lessons to adapt to individual goals and learning styles. I also look forward to learning from my students. I am a true "lifetime learner". My Bachelor's Degree just wasn't enough. I have taken classes at six other universities and returned to the original for additional classes as well. I think it is time to register for a class or two here in Costa Rica to continue my tradition.

I really look forward to the opportunity to engage in the "Free Conversations". I am intrigued by so many places and people in this grand world of ours and I know there is so much more to learn. I am very inquisitive but I will try to not go too far overboard with my questions. :)
The "situational conversation" that I really would like to address is for those who are traveling for business or pleasure. Most travelers can find English speakers at their destination. With some student input on destination and activities, I can develop vocabulary lists and conversational essentials for their travel itinerary. I will also work on pronunciation to assure smoother communication while traveling.
Here in Costa Rica medical and dental tourism is flourishing. I have enjoyed the challenge of creating vocabulary lists and conversational essentials for the different departments in the hospital or dental office. I also work with students to polish their accent to improve communication with clients.
