Hello! Olá! Hola! I am Iris, from the USA, and currently living in Lisbon, Portugal. I speak Portuguese (Brazilian and Portuguese) and Spanish. I have taught English for 5+ years in the USA, Brazil, Chile, Spain, and Portugal. I have experience in all levels, especially A1-B2, in both general English and business English, as well as preparing students for exams, such as the IELTS and the TEFL. My teaching strategy is: fun, engaging, relevant lessons. It is speaking-focused, even when learning grammar. I design the lessons based on your needs and your learning style. Tengo experiencia en todos los niveles, especialmente A1-B2, tanto en inglés general como en inglés de negocios, además de preparar a los estudiantes para exámenes, como el IELTS y el TEFL. This is a common request! The student arrives with a list of questions they think will be asked, and we prepare answers for them together. I also have a list of common interview questions. After having professional, grammatically-correct responses, we go through the interview several times, with variations on the question structure, so the student will be familiar with different ways the questions can be asked. This can be done in one lesson, especially if the student arrives prepared, but for a thorough practice, with new vocabulary, pronunciation work, etc. three lessons is much more effective.
We can go over the various parts needed to progress at an intermediate level, focusing a lot on speaking and independent use of the language. Here, we practice through roleplays, dialogues, grammar, and a mix of educational materials and real material made for native-speakers. Little "tests" can be given as homework at the end of a unit or series of lessons to consolidate the information (if desired)
Stages: Explanation, basic practice, deeper practice, speaking activities around the target language. Resources: it depends on the specific aspect, but I use my own resources, online resources, videos from youtube, and exercises from textbooks I have at home. Songs can be used if the student wants and it is relevant to the goal.
