Guiding students and helping them to learn English in a fun and productive way.
Hello my name is Jacki. Most recently I have been teaching English Language teacher at a bilingual school in Honduras and was teaching there since August 2015. I taught middle school and high school children in classes of up to fifteen students. This was both a challenging and rewarding experience.
My career includes both private and public sector employment in management roles and English language and literature teaching.. My varied career experience has enabled me to bring my excellent organizational and motivational skills to teaching and I am passionate in my view that English lessons which are planned to engage the student in each lesson they receive ensure an enjoyable and productive learning environment. I use this approach every day with my students and the results have proven successful evidenced by their improved use and understanding of English. This approach has lead to many interesting, and often lively, English language discussions as well as outstanding written work on a variety of subjects.
Some examples of my work include using lesson plans to teach English language and literature covering such topics as Macbeth, Themes, Motifs and Symbolism in Literature for advanced students, Free Verse poetry and how we use the English language to express our emotions for intermediate learners. For beginners we have used role play and simple conversation techniques to learn new vocabulary and simple verb forms. Additionally, I teach grammar, lexis and conversational English to all the students and I adhere to the immersion method to facilitate understanding and pronunciation.
I have also worked with adult learners having taught an English evening class. Lesson plans were devised around real life scenarios, such as, arriving at an airport in the U.S.A, eating out, shopping in the supermarket, and other relevant topics for people who wish to travel to an English speaking country.
My educational background is that I studied Social Studies at Wolverhampton University and gained a Dip.HE and went on to work in both the private and the public sector in management roles. Most recently, in July 2015, I completed a Level 5 Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) course in Nicaragua. This was a 190 hour on site course including 10 hours of practicum.
I have always taken an interest in current affairs and follow national and local politics and their economic consequences both in the UK and abroad. I believe it is important to learn and understand different cultures and to use our knowledge to facilitate change and improvement where we can and provide support to those around us.
