I was born and raised in the Midwestern United States, where I also attended college, but have since relocated to Asia. Immediately following university, I moved to Guilin, China where I worked as an ESL instructor for 2 years. After two years in China, I was itching for a change and decided to embark on a backpacking journey throughout SE Asia. I travelled and taught online for about one year before settling down in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I live now. In addition to travelling, I also have a passion for cooking and baking, and I love any and all outdoor activities, namely hiking and rock climbing.

As an ESL teacher, I specialize in oral English, though I do have experience teaching grammar, reading, and writing as well. In terms of oral English, I have experience in teaching pronunciation and intonation, conversational skills, presentation skills (academic and professional), and IELTS test preparation. I also have experience teaching all ages and all skill levels, both in-person and online.

I believe the purpose of language is communication, and therefore tend to emphasize fluency over accuracy. It is my goal to make sure my students can understand and be understood above all else. I have a very student-driven teaching style. In my mind, you, the student, are the boss. Our classes together can be whatever you want them to be. I can be as firm or friendly as you like, and our classes can be as casual or academic as you prefer. In our first class together, it will be my objective to identify your learning goals and establish a baseline for your skills and abilities. From then on, I will work with you to create a teaching plan and strategy to help you reach those goals in a way that works for you. We will work together to create a consistent format for our classes that suits you best. I am very flexible and always open to feedback.
