English teacher and voice coach - learning English is fun and practical!
Hi! My name is Zosia. I was born in England, grew up in South Africa, worked for 2 years in Japan and now live in Toronto, Canada. I'm a qualified English teacher with plenty of experience teaching Japanese English-language learners and I look forward to meeting you!
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's Degree in Education (majoring in English methodology) from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
A TESOL certificate from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
Several months' experience as an English-first-language high school teacher teaching reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to English home language learners. During this time I also worked as a voice coach coaching students' singing, speech and accents.
Two years of working experience as an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) in Hokkaido, Japan.
Two years of working experience as an Eikaiwa (adult English conversation classes) teacher.
Experience working as an adult ESL (English Second Language) teacher to international students.
I am fun, patient and enthusiastic. In free conversation, we'll never run out of interesting topics to talk about because I'm eager to learn more about you. I prefer providing detailed written feedback after the lesson to avoid interrupting the flow of conversation. But, I can make corrections as you speak if that's what you like.
In more structured lessons (News Study, Case Study, Business Role Play), I like to ask open-ended and thoughtful questions to promote quality discussion. I'll also frequently ask questions about unfamiliar words and phrases. I'll offer comments and corrections on pronunciation, intonation and accent reduction while you read.
My experience as a voice coach sets me apart from other teachers. I am able to accurately produce accents different from my own. I use this skill to teach you how to speak more naturally and reduce your accent. I create pronunciation workshops where I listen to how you speak and help you to work on the sounds you can improve on through concentrated study of specific sounds. If you want to sound more British or American when speaking English, please choose me as your English coach!
HOBBIES & INTERESTS
I love travelling and meeting new people, enjoying the outdoors, singing and cooking. I love talking about everything and anything!

教育学 › English Language (学士)
I worked as a High School Teacher for a native English-speaking high school. During this time, I also worked as a voice coach and coached students in the following skills: accent production, accent reduction, singing, acting skills, voice projection.
I worked in Hokkaido for 2 years as an ALT (assistant language teacher). I worked in Junior High Schools and eikaiwa (adult English conversation class). I really enjoyed my time in Japan and I believe that studying Japanese has improved my skill in teaching English. I understand that it's difficult to learn a new language, so I can teach English from the view of a language-learner.
