General Everyday English, Business English, Native Conversational English & Comprehension
Hello, my name is Laura and I'm from the south of England. I've been teaching English here on Skima Talk for 6 years now and am also an In-home tutor. Like you, I am also learning a new language as well. Since I moved to Portugal a few years ago, I'm still learning the language amongst the natives, so I can appreciate the difficulties of language learning and how important it is to keep an open mind.
You can expect a relaxed atmosphere and if it's our first meeting, an opportunity to assess your goals and get to know one another. Future lessons will then be based around your learning goals. I enjoy teaching both Business English and General Everyday English and have a wide range of different scenarios, topics and materials to offer. I also enjoy using current news articles to read and discuss and getting to know the kinds of topics that interest you, for conversation lessons.
I often introduce more native sounding and appropriate vocabulary, expressions and structure to help convey your ideas a little more easily, more smoothly and more naturally. I also correct your pronunciation and grammar where necessary and if required, conduct pronunciation lessons to help perfect those sounds. I always come prepared for every lesson and include full feedback notes in Skype, for your review.
I enjoy observing my students improve and there is nothing better than seeing all of their hard work, practice and dedication pay off. It is my aim to help you to improve and to better your English, to help you to become more confident, more comfortable and more capable. So if this is your goal, you've come to the right place.
I very much look forward to meeting and speaking with you.

I started off as a Customer Service Mortgage Advisor and then an Operations Administrator, before being promoted to a Management Information Analyst. I forecasted inbound call volumes within telephone operated departments for management, provided innovative and creative MI solutions to ensure a process of continuous improvement across the function, collated and distributed MI for all group production functional areas, produced daily, weekly and monthly performance reports, produced ad-hoc reports for management, to help maintain service levels within telephone operated departments, conducted presentations to call advisors new to the Q-MAX Workforce Management System, conducted Q-MAX system training to those seniors and managers new to Q-MAX, created training plans for new starters on the MI team and carried out the training.
I took a year out during this time, where I decided to travel to New Zealand on a working visa. I traveled a little around the North Island, by Kiwi Experience, of which I visited various places, including the Bay of Islands, Wanaka, Rotorua and ended up in Wellington, where I worked for 3 months part-time, as an Insurance Sales Consultant. I then continued the Kiwi Experience around the South Island, visiting Nelson, Abel Tasman National Park, where I did a half-day kayak and hike, Franz Josef Glacier, where I did a half-day glacier trek and a helicopter flight with a snow landing, Queenstown, of which I did a tandem paraglide off of Coronet Peak and then Christchurch. I then went to Melbourne, Australia where I spent 6 weeks over Christmas and New Year, and finally, a month in Thailand, where I visited various places, including Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Ko Pha Ngan. An experience I will never forget!
