Teaching English to eager students - stress-free and fun!
Hello! I'm Madelyn. I live in Wales, on the west coast of the UK. I love walks on the beach, swimming in the ocean and spending time with friends and family over cups of tea. I also enjoy running, hiking and sports as well as cookery and art.
I am a first-language UK English speaker as well as a Welsh-language learner so I understand the challenges in learning a new language. The best thing for learning a language is patience, practice and the ability to laugh! We all make mistakes, but that's how we learn and remember and gain confidence to use new words and phrases.
We all learn in different ways and at different speeds too and I will always take this into consideration. Open communication is the key to a solid teacher-student relationship.
I've been involved in one-to-one teaching for over 10 years and I'm also enrolled in a public speaking school which helps to keep me up-to-date with the latest methods of teaching and speaking. I attend these public speaking classes every week and they help me stay fresh and practiced. Every 5 years I attend an intense week-long refresher class.
I've taught a varied range of students from all over the world; I find it very fulfilling work and I really love to teach and get to know my students.
My teaching style is very interactive; I make sure to involve you in our discussion right away - this is really important as this is the secret to learning a language: practice!
I feel culture is also very important; understanding the target languages' history and background is a massive stepping stone to understanding the language itself. Incorporating different facets of British-English culture is an accessible way to help you see the importance of learning the English language and learning to speak it like a native!
English idioms and phrases are a fascinating way to gain an insight into the language and I love looking into their origins and history.
