I really enjoy teaching, but I am especially happy when I'm able to help children learn English.
Hello, my name is Maria. I was born and raised in Canada, but I am currently living in the Dominican Republic. I have a TEFL certificate to teach English, but I also have ten years of experience as a volunteer tutor in my community. I enjoy working with people from other countries and of various age groups. I find it very rewarding to help someone reach their goals, especially in regards to their skillful use of English whether for professional or personal purposes.
I have spent a lot of time and energy in learning a foreign language, I am trying to learn Russian and Spanish. With this experience I have come to understand the frustrations that can arise from slow progress or struggling with a specific task/skill. I also understand how important it is to keep learning interesting so that the student wants to keep learning.
I enjoy being organized, with that I like to have a schedule which makes sure that I am well prepared and on time for work, or any other activity.

Using games, pictures and flashcards I make learning fun and interesting. Repetition is essential for children, they need to review regularly to help them connect what they know to what they are learning. I make use of some online curriculum to help guide the sessions through a logical development.
