Experienced & adaptable educator to help with grammar, fluency, pronunciation, and public speaking.
I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, USA so I speak with a neutral American accent, but I now live in Cochabamba, Bolivia. I have experienced the joys and challenges of learning a second language and I am now fluent in Spanish. This perspective has made me a better English teacher and has given me insight into how it feels to struggle to learn a second language, insight that not all English teachers have.
I have business experience and still manage a business I started in the United States so I can help with the practical use of English in that setting.
I also have a great deal of public speaking experience and have spoken at educational conferences in front of audiences as large as 5000 attendees.
Although my experience may be useful for professionals looking to improve their English, I am happy to teach students of all ages and backgrounds. I currently teach children as young as 5 years old and some adults that are in their 60s. I have truly enjoyed learning about my students and their unique stories.
In all of my travels I have found that the places I have seen are less impressive than the people that live there. Understanding their way of thinking, their culture, and their customs has enriched my life and broadened my viewpoint. Teaching English online allows me another way to "travel" and understand new cultures.
I enjoy finding the tools that will help each student make the most personal progress possible. I have decades of practical experience and my aid is to help each student to read, write, and love English as I do.
Teaching Specialty:
I continue to take public speaking courses and have the practical experience of having spoken at educational conferences with audiences numbering up to 5000 people. I can help students to learn how to engage and educate audiences large and small and teach them the skills to communicate complex ideas in a way that makes them easy for people of all education levels to grasp.
As a business owner I have gained a great deal of experience in how to negotiate business deals and communicate on a professional level. This experience allows me to teach others the communication skills needed in business and has proven invaluable in teaching adults that are looking to improve their English for business purposes.
Especially due to my study of Spanish grammar, I have learned how to effectively teach English grammar. I continue to study the nuances of the English language and love to research grammar questions my students have.
