Hello. My name is James or Jim, for short. Originally, I come from England, in The UK, but since July 2015, I have been living and working as an online ESL teacher, in Baguio city, Philippines. Prior to this, I spent over six years teaching English - face to face - in China. I have worked in a boarding school, a language school and a university. I have worked with all ages and all ability levels of students. I have been a certified and qualified ESL teacher, since November 2002, after completing my teacher training at The Advanced Institute in Barcelona. Before teacher training, I worked for Mercer HR Consulting, in the financial services industry and also amassed further years of corporate experience within financial services and marketing, prior to becoming a full-time teacher in March 2009. My teaching style is to try to create an atmosphere and environment in which the student feels comfortable to talk as much as possible. I prefer not to interrupt students when they are speaking. As a general rule, the only time that I will interrupt you is if or when I can't understand what you are saying. Even if you make mistakes, as long as these mistakes do not affect your ability to communicate and express your ideas, I prefer to make handwritten notes of your errors and after the session, send you a detailed feedback message with specific corrections. Having said that, of course, I will try to adjust my teaching style, as far as possible, to suit the individual needs of the student. I use a variety of teaching material from different sources, in particular www.breakingnewsenglish.com and www.linguahouse.com - I am quite capable, however, of conducting genuinely free spontaneous conversations without the need for any pre-prepared material.

I was responsible for all aspects of administration of over a hundred clients, each of whom had a SIPP (self-invested personal pension). My duties included buying stocks and shares on their behalf, placing other investments and purchasing commercial property etc.
